Trip Reports
Nepal & India , January 14-22, 2008
This past December, a local Maoist leader asked Bharat Tamang, his daughter, Tabitha, and their church to come pray for him and his group of followers. His motives were not to receive a spiritual blessing, but rather, he and his group were prepared to surround the church and attack them with sticks. After Bharat and the church prayed for them, though, the hearts of the group were softened and instead of trying to run them off with a beating, they offered the congregation a place to meet in their area.
Despite the threat of persecution and overwhelming pressure from the surrounding culture against following Christ, Bharat and Tabitha have a thriving ministry in India. God is using each of them and their unique gifts to reach their community for Christ.
Bharat Tamang is a Nepali reaching Nepalis in the Delhi area of north India. Through his ministry, God has healed many people, both physically and spiritually, showing Himself to be a powerful God in the midst of a culture that worships many powerless gods. Bharat preaches the Word and lives it out so that others can see Christ in him. His church in the southern part of Delhi now numbers over 250 and he continues to reach out to the surrounding areas to minister in the name of Christ.
Tabitha Tamang, along with providing valuable assistance to her father, has a ministry of her own to the young Nepalis in Delhi. She holds weekly meetings with teens and twenties, developing relationships with them as she models Christ in their midst. Several have come to Christ through her witness and many more contemplating what it means to be a follower of Jesus. With a heart to reach children as well, she is preparing several mobile VBS programs for the upcoming year.
God is at work among the Nepalis through the ministry of the Tamangs. Please pray for Bharat, Tabitha, and their church as they seek to reach the unreached for Christ.
