Tribal Peace in Northern Kenya –

From NDI partner Stakwell Yurenimo (on right)

Dear Friends and Partners,

Loving greetings to you from Kenya.

I know most of you have been seeing on the news and hearing what has been happening in Kenya. First, we thank God that we have peace in northern Kenya, even though our part of the country has been branded as the violent region in the past years. My family, Francesca, Wendy and the people in Samburu are safe and doing fine.

But I am deeply hurt with what is going on in our beloved country. More than 1,000 people have been killed and 400,000 have been displaced. What saddens and shocks me is that Kenya is believed to be 80% Christian. Some of the most affected places, where several killings are taking place, are in Christian-dominated parts. It seems the Muslim-dominated places are not having as much conflict. Thanks to God, our region has been quite peaceful.

The sports’ camp has made lots of impacts. We have been focusing for years on kids, young men, and women from tribal groups that are not living in peace, reaching them through sports to bring peace to the fighting tribes in northern Kenya. After being at our camp, they have helped their tribes not to kill other tribes. I have met many young men who told me, “We have seen the importance of living together as God’s people. This past year at the sports’ camp, we learned that we cannot fight our fellow tribesmen.” What joy I have to know this! God is doing things in different ways.

I just want to thank God and thank all of our prayer partners and supporters. Be encouraged. I am so much happy to see what God has done, and I can see the fruits of the sports’ camp. Several schools have invited me to reach school kids from different tribes. With your prayers and support, we can do this. God bless you as you pray for Kenya during these hard times.

Again I ask, keep praying as we reach people because, without the Prince of Peace, there will be no peace. Also, we have our next sports outreach coming up in April. This cannot take place without your financial support so would you please continue to partner with us.

In His love,

Stakwell

P.S. If you would like to make a donation for this April’s Samburu Sports Outreach ($5,000 budget), you can do so here.
